CHAKA is the name used to represent the groom’s wedding outfit. Chaka, “Zulu King and Warrier”, was a strong leader, a man with great power and the heart of a tiger in 19th Century Bantu society in Africa. We selected the name Chaka for this outfit to celebrate the vibrant color (burgundy and gold) and embroidery that symbolizes strength and energy. The man`s wedding outfit has striking embroidery on sleeveless agbada (gown), dashiki (shirt), trousers, and kuffi hat. The Ankh symbol is embroidered in the back of the agbada. The Ankh was, for the ancient Egyptians, the symbol (the actual Hieroglyphic sign) of life but it is an enduring icon that remains with us even today as a Christian cross. It is one of the most potent symbols represented in Egyptian art, often forming a part of decorative motifs. The trousers have a drawstring waist with embroidery around the hem (end).
