The woman’s dress has lace cape adorned with silver trim and silver cowrie shells. Silver cowrie shells and silver lace trim are stitched onto the white lace with embedded stones. Cowrie Shells are symbolic of spiritual grounding, protection, fertility, and bridewealth. Used for currency, cowrie shells were the most popular form of money in Africa and the Egyptians revered them as. In today’s modern society, cowrie shells have become very symbolic among African descendants and other cultural expressions in America and through-out the world.
